Local Business Man Smashes £10,000 Air Ambulance Target Climbing Everest

Dom Renshaw is a man on a mission. The local businessman is currently at the foot of Everest and is hopefully only one week away from scaling the world’s tallest mountain, via the most dangerous route.

Before his attempt Dom was very clear that safety is the most important element of preparation.  “I am under no illusion this is going to be the hardest week of my life. Priority number one is safety. The journey is going to be an incredible adventure, and the summit will be amazing. Let’s see what happens, it’s going to be awesome!”

He is taking the toughest route up – the north side of Everest from Tibet. This is the route that explorers George Mallory and Andrew Irvine climbed in 1924, sadly never to return.

Dom’s epic adventure is not for personal glory however, as he is raising money for the Thames Valley Air Ambulance.

Dom said, “Achieving this dream will allow me to raise as much money as possible for Thames Valley Air Ambulance, who deliver critical medical care to save lives across the Thames Valley.”

Phil Johnson from Archway Business Solutions,  is part of the same Business Networking group as Dom and he has sponsored his attempt.

“I met Dom at BNI and I also support Thames Valley Air Ambulance so it was a simple to choice to support a local guy doing something extraordinary to raise money and awareness for Thames Valley Air Ambulance. I know how dangerous it is to do this but he is very driven to accomplish this amazing feat.”

On Monday Dom smashed his fundraising target of £5,000. This is enough money to pay for 10 doctors to attend a pre-hospital surgical skills course, giving them the tools they need to operate on scene. As optimistic as ever Dom  upped the target to £8,448 which is the height of Everest in metres.

However, as of June 1st, this target has already been smashed with £10,000 being raised!

Everyone at Thames Valley Air Ambulance has been glued to Dom’s progress including Events Fundraising Manager, Clare.

“Dom is the definition of a Thames Valley Air Ambulance Hero,” said Clare. “We cannot thank him enough for his hard work, dedication and fundraising.”
